America, Enslaved by Debt
by Ramon Arias

On the cover of The Economist magazine of June 13-19, 2009, is a toddler dragging a huge ball and chain with the title "Debt the biggest bill in history." Very revealing but nothing to laugh about; the present generation is allowing the government to enslave future generations. Most people do not associate debt with the loss of freedom until it is too late. It is time to see debt for what it is: a debilitating force corrupting individuals and nations.

Have you ever asked how this nation got into such a financial mess? Have you ever asked how the government grew so much and so powerful beyond the original intent of the Founding Fathers and in spite of all the Constitutional limitations? With so many questions and not many "experts" offering the right answers, one thing is certain, people have accepted the big lie that fiscal policy of "debt is better," gone are checks and balances for the government.

Like never before we have so many individuals with higher learning credentials such as PHD’s and so on. Thinking themselves wiser than the Founding Fathers, they are destroying the continuity of the original vision for America. The success formula of the Founders was to abide by fundamental principles; these must be reevaluated. They believed in paying off the national debt sooner than later. It was their understanding that survival as a free people depended on being free of debt and vital to ensure prosperity. Consider these words by Thomas Jefferson: "I however, place economy among the first and most important of republican virtues, and public debt as the greater of the dangers to be feared." How ironic that this present administration and the previous ones, even before Franklyn D. Roosevelt, ignore the wisdom and counsel of the Founders who believed that debt was dangerous like a plague and a cultural disease.

The Founders saw borrowing as something acceptable in times of crisis without losing the perspective that without immediately paying off that debt it then becomes evil, enslaving people and nations. To accept the vision of the new academic and intellectual generation, based on the humanist vision of a world where government is supreme, is to deny the terrible results of what their ideology did in the Ex Soviet Union and many other nations.

The new Marxist, "Progressives," are having their heyday and doing a fast job of planting the seeds of destruction. Just take a quick look at how they are trampling the Constitution ignoring the limitations stipulated by the brilliant minds of the Founders. These progressives are hypnotizing the masses, making them believe that their ideas are a short cut to prosperity; don’t hold your breath! If you are serious and want to understand where these progressives are taking the nation study the disastrous New Deal experiment of FD Roosevelt. You will be shocked!

The traditional American life-style is in great jeopardy. If this generation wants to reverse the trend, I insist, they must go back to the original foundations of this country. They have to tighten their belts to control the material appetite and make their elected officials responsible for their fiscal and moral actions. Keep in mind that the original foundation of America goes beyond the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights. Those documents are the result of the knowledge the Founders acquired from another incomparable document, the Bible.

The biblical worldview of the colonists and the Founding Fathers must come back to the pulpits, public schools, the workplace, every social institution including all government branches, the family, media, entertainment, in other words to every area of life. It is when we neglect the biblical worldview that society gradually weakens. The Bible must be restored to the place it originally had in the design that saw its birth. It is the only sure foundation that can bring back the nation’s original vision of greatness as the model for the rest of the nations; remember no empire built on debt has ever survived.
