Obama’s visit to Hiroshima, where the world experienced the first nuclear attack on August 6, 1945, was a prime opportunity for him to lecture the world on the morality against the destructive force brought about by war and the advancement of weapons. In his speech he stated:
“…graves and empty camps that echo of unspeakable depravity….
How the very spark that marks us as a species, our thoughts, our imagination, our language, our toolmaking, our ability to set ourselves apart from nature and bend it to our will — those very things also give us the capacity for unmatched destruction….
Technological progress without an equivalent progress in human institutions can doom us. The scientific revolution that led to the splitting of an atom requires a moral revolution as well….
Some day, the voices of the hibakusha [survivors] will no longer be with us to bear witness. But the memory of the morning of Aug. 6, 1945, must never fade. That memory allows us to fight complacency. It fuels our moral imagination. It allows us to change.”
A quick reading of Obama’s full speech can be very moving if we overlook scrutinizing the content under the historical facts of thousands of years of warfare. I can also understand the indignation of others in condemning him for not mentioning that the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor is what moved Congress to declare war against Japan.
Obama’s focus was on the moral problems of nuclear warfare, as if the decision of bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki was thoughtless and absent of morality. President Harry S. Truman had to make that fatal decision to bring the war to an end; otherwise, no one knows how many lives would have been lost on both sides. Years later, Truman commented on his decision: “That bomb caused the Japanese to surrender, and it stopped the war. I don’t care what the crybabies say now, because they didn’t have to make the decision.”
Obama wants the world to use “moral imagination” and to make changes so that weapons of mass-destruction won’t waste any more lives. He certainly does not understand the viciousness of multiculturalism in the world, and the idea known by the term COEXIST, which is an impossible task due to the diversity of worldviews in regards to morality.
How ironic that Obama wants moral restrain and the elimination of nuclear weapons to stop human massacres while ignoring his open approval of the unborn baby holocaust in America, where close to 60 million lives have been destroyed since 1973, and counting. There have been one billion, 416 million abortions worldwide since 1980, and that number increases by the second. He needs to see the horrific images of how unborn babies are murdered. Yes, Mr. Obama, morality does play a significant part on human behavior especially when harming other human beings.
We cannot speak about morality only in relation to weapons of warfare; the ethical and moral outcome embraces all aspects of human behavior. Since the dawn of human history this has been debated. Humans can easily change their perspective of morality depending on societal trends. Obama was against same sex marriage, but when he felt that it was safe, he changed his position and threw America into a battle for moral sanity.
The human dilemma about morality depends on who defines it; this is where the rubber meets the road. How can anyone who believes in evolution expect to live by correct moral standards? The idea that we have descended from animals alone contradicts evolution’s morality and we should not bother in implementing any concept of morals. How long do you think humanity could survive under the law of the jungle?
There is only one source of genuine and lasting morality. Almost 400 years ago biblical morality arrived to this continent; it is the only virtue that guarantees true progress in all of life.
Noah Webster (1758-1843), author of the first American Speller and the first Dictionary stated, “The moral principles and precepts contained in the scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. . . All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery, and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible.”
America’s future, and the world’s, can only be guaranteed as she retakes, with renewed determination and courage, total reliance upon God’s Word. Anything short of that will never work, and we most certainly should know that by now. It is decision time for us to heed the call to return to the moral standards that the eternal all-wise God has established.
