America’s Culture of Lies

Ramon Arias | October 30, 2012

“A few short weeks will determine the political fate of America for the present generation, and probably produce no small influence on the happiness of society through a long succession of ages to come.” –George Washington (1778)

For many years, I have been pointing out America’s radical change toward a culture of lies. Lies have become so acceptable they are now the norm and the truth is cast aside, ridiculed and even persecuted in most cases. During election time most people pay attention to politician’s lies as if they were the truth and for the most part give them a pass in the media, in the world of entertainment, education, science, commerce, and sadly, even from the pulpits and theological seminaries.

Historically a culture of lies is a culture which rots society at the core. You may believe that poverty, or a free market which produces too many wealthy people, politicians or race are what corrupt society in a deeper way; that is exactly what the liars want you to believe. You have to start asking hard questions such as, why America has become so corrupt and why those who lie seem to get the most benefits and dominate the social landscape? We all know that something is definitely wrong with America and threatens her very existence and the stable social order that used to be the case many decades ago.

If America is rotting from the inside out, why are people still asking what is destroying American society? We hear the blame game from one segment of society to another, conservatives against liberals or progressives (socialists and Marxists are other names that describe this segment). The 99% blames the 1% and who does the 1% blame? They blame those in government and when it comes to educations; teachers blame parents for the children poor academic performance; parents blame teachers and the teachers unions. There is plenty of blame to go around while the nation continues sinking into corruption.

We cannot forget the nation will only reflect the image of its society. America, for the most part, has lost the most valuable asset that made her great, good character values! What ever happened to honor, humility, personal responsibility, dependability, diligence, discernment, faith, gratefulness, loyalty, orderliness, self-control, sincerity, truthfulness, virtue, wisdom, and many more qualities of character that reveal the individual’s response to life, no matter what the circumstances may be?

For more than 200 years America was the hope of the nations. Now the world sees nothing exceptional in this country; nothing appeals to them as being exemplary. They scorn America’s ideals for obvious reasons such as downgrading human life from conception to the grave, unbelievable debt, soaring drug consumption, sexual immorality, perversion, the constant rise of prison population, increasing loss of freedom, cities that look like war torn areas, an ever increasing social instability, overwhelming lies that dominate the culture, and what to say of lying politicians that are the norm as in other nations? Where is the difference in America?

A presidential election also includes election of both U.S. Houses, and state and local officials. The political ads are full of lies; how do people know they are lies? Because when these ads are compared to the facts they don’t add up.

When an incumbent runs for reelection it is much easier to know the true values of that politician; there is a record that reveals his or her true character and values. Obama leads the pack not because of the color of his skin but the poor content of his character and he is the person who occupies the White House. The list of his lies is so enormous and yet millions of people are okay with his performing lies, it is evident that most people like to be lied to. These are not small lies they are all big and significant Lies! He constantly changes his statements with contradictions.

Remember, the lying malady is found in most members of all political parties. Voting Americans should consider the reason for increasing sales of guns and ammunition, the misery index, increasing suicide rates, the millions of unemployed, a shrinking economy of the middle class, foreclosures, debt, etc. Americans should know that the present generation is determining the outcome for future generations.

There is no need to deny that American people once again are heavily polarized and are heading toward disastrous social unrest that could render worse results than the Civil War (War Between the States). Every concerned voting American should ask what kind of nation are we about to become if the present leadership continues in power with all these lies. Can we afford four more years of the same? Here’s another question that we must not overlook, is this election going to respect the people’s will or are we going to witness the death of free elections? So much is at stake. No doubt, the nation is drowning in lies.

In 1778 George Washington was very concerned about the elections in his lifetime; elections do determine the social destiny for the present and future generations. Washington knew unscrupulous, immoral, corrupt, and deceitful individuals are the worst elements of society who can use their position to an elected post to accomplish their evil agenda.

Does everyone like to be lied to? No! And that is good news. Once lies are exposed under the light of the truth it liberates individuals who refuse to be under the bondage of lies.

Jesus told the Jews of his time, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31–32). The Jews who were listening to him were offended and replied, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?” (John 8:33). Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin” (John 8:34). Israel had become a nation of lies but they wanted to believe they were exceptional. The fruit of their culture otherwise condemned them. Lies are one manifestation of sin evident to Israel who was under the oppressive tyranny of the Roman Empire. Upon their insistence that they were doing the right thing Jesus exposed the false ideology they were following by stating, “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). Jesus made it very clear there are only two ideologies that people can embrace and the choice belongs to the individual.

Once again America and the world need to be reminded to embrace the truth and reject lies and the consequences of a lying society. America needs true lovers of the truth that will fight with all their might for the future of this country and reinstate the biblical foundational values that made her great.

Every election is about two contradicting ideologies based upon truth or lies. Will we choose the foundation that produces individuals who believe in self-government, liberty, life, hard work and the opportunity to make a better life for everyone or not. The opposite ideology are those in society who have accepted the philosophical lies of dependency and the ability of the government to take away from those who “have” and give it to those who “have not”. They don’t care to be lied to; they just want others to meet their needs and even their wants. We are facing a war of ideas of a republic based upon biblical principles against the lies of the socialists’ nanny state.

Soon we will find out, may God have mercy upon us all!
