“I have as often taken notice that Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people–a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs, and who, by their joint counsels, arms, and efforts, fighting side by side throughout a long and bloody war, have nobly established general liberty and independence. This country and this people seem to have been made for each other, and it appears as if it was the design of Providence, that an inheritance so proper and convenient for a band of brethren, united to each other by the strongest ties, should never be split…” John Jay, Founding Father and First Chief Justice of the United States, Federalist Paper 2“E pluribus unum” is the motto suggested by the committee Congress appointed on July 4, 1776 to design “a seal for the United States of America.” E pluribus unum alludes to the union between the states and federal government. E pluribus unum describes an action: Many uniting into one. An accurate translation of the motto is “From Many, One” or “Out of Many, One.” How does E pluribus unum compare to diversity, or does it?
How did our beloved country, the United States of America, go from a united country as expressed above in Chief Justice John Jay’s words in Federalist Paper 2, now become a very divided nation in its most important values?
If there is an argument in our society that is becoming so loud it is deafening it’s the mantra of “diversity”. It is being applied to non-negotiable values and it is being force-fed to us in such great quantities that we are choking on it. The obvious question is, who is setting the standards and purporting diversity as the magic ingredient that some are saying will somehow unite us if we all cave into its demands? Do water and oil mix? Is bitter the same as sweet? Can darkness and light coexist at the same time in the same place?
The all-wise God of the Bible says, in Isaiah 5:20-21, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight!” So can we say that all value systems are the same therefore we should accept them under the banner of diversity?
It is clear from the portion of Federalist Paper 2, quoted above that this country, the United States of America, was based on unity of values on things that matter, not diversity.
What are those things that matter? They are one united people—speaking the same language, professing the same belief in God (not religion), and in the same values for living, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs. This is what worked in America and gave it its greatness like no other nation in human history had ever reached before.
By making this point, am I advocating that we should all be uniform like robots? Absolutely not! What I am saying is, can two walk together if they do not agree on the things that matter? No, they can’t. Allow me to explain.
There are values in life that can be negotiable and there are those that are non-negotiable. The value and protection of life, liberty and property are non-negotiable. They are not to be tampered with or usurped in any way, neither by humans or government. They are God-given rights. But to some very loud and powerful people a misconstrued interpretation of these has become the “diversity” they seek. Life, to a growing number in America, has morphed into perversions of very unnatural lifestyles. They want to destroy life at will through abortion, euthanasia, human trafficking, and a myriad of gender choices that are not biologically natural because they go totally against their biological, spiritual and emotional make up. Yet, they want us to accept them without any consequences, and give our seal of approval to ease their God-given conscience that constantly warns them against going that route. They’re very insistent. They say it is their choice, but we must know that all choices bring consequences. They say we are “bigots” if we don’t accept them in society with open arms and give social approval at the expense of the values of the rest of us to practice their licentious lifestyles. Also a misconstrued interpretation of liberty is being accepted when it is really licentiousness and private property is being advocated as the property of all and that everyone has a right to take it away from us to help the lazy and less fortunate. What nonsense!
This is very destructive behavior in the name of diversity. Do all roads lead to Rome? No they do not!
Do differences in the important pillars of life and a society matter? They most certainly do. This is why we have “irreconcilable differences” as the most cited reason for divorces and the break up of families. Different value systems in a marriage or a family will cause breakups because it’s like a pair of oxen who are yoked and one wants to go in a different direction than the other. Pardon the crude example but in essence, that’s the way it is.
What happens in your place of employment if you choose to do things your way and not the way the company policies dictate? If you don’t comply, how long will you have your job?
Bottom line, truth has always divided. Jesus said in Matthew 10:34-37, “Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. He who loves father or mother more than Me [and my truth] is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.”
We are put on this earth to uphold God’s truth in all matters and not the opinions of men to be liked by them. Our country was built on united values from God not humans. If we want to save it, the sooner we get back to those values the better it will be for us.
