Jesus told his disciples, “Let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.” Luke 22:36 “It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and the Bible.” ~ George WashingtonIn the face of the challenges of life where do we go to know what is the right thing to do? Keep reading to the end to find the balance and wisdom in what Jesus said to his disciples in the verse above.
In the face of a mass killing, the left wastes no time in increasing the volume of their gun control mantra when in reality the opposite is the solution. Law-abiding citizens with the ability to defend themselves in the face of danger will definitely discourage evil perpetrators and save lives. That is what the Second Amendment is all about.
More gun control only makes all citizens become soft targets and easy pickings for indiscriminate shooting. More freedom for the responsible citizenry to be armed in all places without restrictions would definitely deter criminals and out-of-cotntol shooters from carrying out these massacres on innocent defenseless people. Definitely, teachers in schools should be able to defend the students rather than just try to hide them or shield them with their body and take the shots themselves.
Arming teachers and ending gun-free zones in schools is a step in the right direction and Florida Sheriff Grady Judd of Polk County agrees with me. After the mass shooting at a south Florida high school where seventeen people lost their lives, Sheriff Judd has devised a plan to arm teachers and end gun-free zones in schools—he wants the program to be implemented nationwide and I agree with him wholeheartedly. He says, “There has to be a line-of-defense. It’s not something we want to do — it’s something we have to do.” The plan is simple: Arm teachers with concealed weapons and train them to effectively defend students should the need ever arise. The program has already been put into action at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida, which is in Judd’s jurisdiction. The solution to ending the loss of innocent live is not complicated.
What does the Bible say about self-defense? There is a balance in God’s Word when it comes to the use of force. In Luke 22:36, Jesus told his disciples “…let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.” Jesus knew that now was the time when His followers would be threatened, and he upheld their right to self-defense. Just a short time later, Jesus is arrested, and Peter takes a sword and cuts off someone’s ear. Jesus rebukes Peter for that act (verses 49–51). Why? In his zeal to defend the Lord, Peter was standing in the way of God’s will. Jesus had told His disciples multiple times that He must be arrested, put on trial, and die (e.g., Matthew 17:22–23). In other words, Peter acted unwisely in that situation. When it comes to using force we must have wisdom regarding when to fight and when not to.
The wisdom in God’s Word for any situation is perfect. Exodus 22 gives some clues about God’s attitude toward self-defense: “If a thief is caught breaking in at night and is struck a fatal blow, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed; but if it happens after sunrise, the defender is guilty of bloodshed” (Exodus 22:2–3). Two basic principles taught in this text are the right to own private property and the right to defend that property. The full exercise of the right to self-defense, however, depended on the situation. No one ought not be too quick to use deadly force against another, even someone who means to do him harm.
But the left and their pundits never lose an opportunity to push their liberal agenda and immediately make blanket statements, this is what they do best, focusing the blame of indiscriminate killing on guns and the cry for stricter gun control! But the truth is, we don’t need more gun laws only the enforcement of the ones we already have. The more restrictive laws we have against guns the more they tie the hands of responsible citizens to defend themselves and more lives are lost unnecessarily.
Those who espouse the leftist worldview continually mock those who want to cling to their Bibles and their guns, but we dare them to implement God’s wisdom and let’s see what renders the best results in keeping and maintaining an orderly society.
