Ireland Votes to Legally Murder the Unborn

Nena Arias | May 29, 2018

The unborn lost their right-to-life in Ireland last week. This is so strange and sad since Ireland has been a stronghold of the conservative Roman Catholic Church for a long time. According to official government statistics collected during the 2002 census, the religious affiliation of the population is 88.4 percent Roman Catholic, 2.9 percent Church of Ireland (Anglican), 0.52 percent Presbyterian, 0.25 percent Methodist, 0.49 percent Muslim, and less than 0.1 percent Jewish. The statistics clearly show the predominant religion in the Republic of Ireland is Christianity, with the largest church being the Roman Catholic Church, which is strongly pro-life. So, what happened?

As you can see, the predominant religious faith in Ireland is Christianity, which claims to read and accept the Bible as its main authority; this includes the Old Testament books of God’s law as being the authority of the Christian faith. The Book of Exodus, where the Ten Commandments are, clearly indicates “You shall not kill.”  How can Christians justify a vote in favor of ending unborn human life?

History tells us that abortion is not a new practice, it was recorded in 1550 B.C. in Egypt, in what is called the Ebers Papyrus (note 2) and in ancient China about 500 B.C. However, modern civilizations seem to think that the more “sophisticated,” they become that gives them the right to treat the unborn in a barbaric way. Especially, when dramatic drops in matters of faith decline, life loses value and becomes easily disposable. The dramatic collapse of Christianity in Ireland over recent decades has lost interest in the subject.

More and more, we are seeing this culture of death against the unborn receiving social acceptance around the world and becoming a “legal” practice to annihilate entire generations. A vote in favor of abortion is a tragedy anywhere in the world. A wrong does not become a right simply because a majority says so. By what authority do humans think they can do this and be right? Very soon, the world will pay a high price for this because God, who is the giver of life, will not be mocked. No person or civilization who thinks that life is theirs to dispose of at their pleasure will succeed indefinitely.

Every human being is a special creation in God’s image. Every person is endowed by their Creator with enormous worth, therefore, intentional death of anyone is a loss of something precious and irreplaceable and we are poorer for it. In America, let’s vote pro-life in every election in hopes to avert the wrath of the Almighty.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him…” (Genesis 1:27).  “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you” (Jeremiah 1:5).
