Is Violent Crime our New Normal?

“If anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself…
Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”
(Galatians 6:3, 7)

Why is crime rising today? Every few days or weeks, we learn of horrific violent crimes being committed all across our country. What are the contributing factors to bring this about? We hear of mass shootings at workplaces, grocery stores, road rage incidents and even churches. A horrific rise in family members killing their family members and even parents killing their minor children and each other. What is going on? It seems violent crime is surging by the day. Life, property and propriety are totally dispensable. It seems the mentality that says “laws are made to be broken” is ruling the roost.

The increase in crime waves among Americans is exceeding anything I have seen in my lifetime of seventy years. Anyone who is paying attention is certainly seeing the surge in violent crime and shootings especially in the past couple of years. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, (CDC) reports firearms mortality by State and ranks each state. The rise is astounding!

We know that acts of kindness have a ripple effect, but so do acts of violence. Hence the term of “copycat crimes.”

More and more, our country and civilization are unrecognizable and going in the opposite direction of how things should go if they are to get better. We are getting worse and fulfilling all the tendencies and indications of a civilization headed for a fall. We are not the same people and country as we were not too long ago.

We have lost main qualities that are essential to a free society. The first and most important is godliness. Without the God of the Bible, any society is lost and dying because God’s truth is the only way to be free indeed. John 8:32 says “…you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Values, morals and ethics become distorted when humans are dictating the direction for life instead of living in obedience to God in these matters. We have only to look at ten concrete commands to know how to live properly with ourselves and others. These are known as the Ten Commandments, also known as the Decalogue. They are a set of biblical principles relating to ethics and worship that play a fundamental role in God’s design for the human race. They are for all of humanity to observe not just those who want to be religious. God is not a religion he is the Creator of heaven and earth and the sole owner of the universe. “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” (Psalm 24:1)

Disregard of God’s commands is what brings destruction and death to any people. This is the reason for the rise in violent crime and havoc in our country. America is being destroyed from within. The godless and lawless people who have no fear of God or respect for their fellowman are flexing their muscles and there is no push back, deterrent or adequate law enforcement to stop them. We have become a nation in total disarray because we think we can create an alternate universe to the one God has established. He has been gracious, kind, merciful and patient. But time has run out and we are reaping what we have sown because what God has established will be obeyed one way or another.

If we do not turn back to being A Nation Under God, don’t expect things to get better. They will only get worse. God help us!
