Navigating The Ocean of Misinformation

Ramon Arias | August 15, 2016

Misinformation is not a phenomenon of our times; it has been with humanity for thousands of years. Our generation is the best positioned to sort out truth from falsehood, and reality from fiction. The future of a nation always depends on whose agenda people embrace as truth and reality; the question is how do we know if it is truth and reality? Finding the difference is the responsibility of each one of us.

Those who want to implement their social vision will do it through all the means available to them to sell and impose their ideas, especially if they want to destroy traditional values. All information right or wrong, accurate or inaccurate, once we accept it, will impact our lives for better or for worse.

The most knowledgeable and qualified to navigate this ocean of misinformation are biblical Christians through their knowledge of God’s Word. They understand with clarity what 1 Chronicles 12:32 means when it mentions the men of Issachar, “men who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do…” The majority of people who are living in fantasyland know that things are not going well, and only getting worse. They don’t know how to turn the tide that is against them, and fear grips their hearts and minds as they look into an uncertain future.

Understanding what God has done throughout history brightens the present and fills the heart and mind with unshakable faith and hope for the future. I’m not talking about blind faith and hope, but the one that comes through biblical reason to understand the cruelty of the present and how we got here. The solutions are laid out in God’s revealed Word and His people who know it and plan accordingly to overcome insurmountable obstacles. They side with Job, who went through unimaginable battles, which included his health, loss of family and all his wealth, yet he proclaimed: “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2). The world’s agenda doesn’t belong to men, regardless of how loud they may squeal and squirm at that reality, they always lose in the end if they persist in fighting God.

The apostle John wrote to the Christians of two thousand years ago: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). Some who professed to be on God’s side presented the early Christians with misinformation.  John told the Christians not to believe everyone, but to test everyone, to verify if the messenger’s information was in accord with God’s worldview.  The same principles apply to all areas of life that are touched by myriads of information sources.  Christians must not fall into the trap of ignoring that God’s moral law rules all things.

Misinformation about social, economic and international issues do not pass the biblical worldview and will continue to lead people the wrong way toward destruction if the course is not stopped and reversed; this means we need to know what the issues are, in detail, that are dominating and corrupting the culture. Those who choose to disregard the God of the Bible and His Sovereignty will continue to push out the biblical culture if Christians let them.  In the same letter, John said:  “Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them” (1 John 4:4-5).

The media is divided, to the left and the right. Those on the left have billions of dollars behind them to indoctrinate people into accepting their globalist agenda thinking they own the world and can enslave people at their command. Those on the right don’t have the billions of dollars behind them, but they are making inroads with the people through the growing impact of social media.  Rest assured that truth is never defeated, never!

When in doubt about God’s plans, His control of history, and working in your life and the nation keep in mind the questions He asked Job:

“Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone,” Job 38:4-6 (ESV).

As we navigate daily through the ocean of misinformation, especially during election time, let us be diligent in doing our homework on every issue that is annihilating the future of America. Making a detailed list of the important and crucial issues will help us to understand the spirit (worldview) of each candidate that asks us for our vote. The information is out there and accessible, make time and discern the times; do your part, as I will do mine, to make the best possible decision and leave the outcome to God Almighty.
