America is no longer the Christian, conservative and free country that it used to be. We are becoming a decadent, hedonistic and socialist nation. Constitutional freedoms and rights are being stripped away at an alarming rate and are being replaced with the strict rules of a tyrannical government.
Consequently, some Americans are not only seeking other places to live, but are renouncing their US citizenship as they leave. I know a family who moved to New Zealand over 10 years ago because they had more religious freedoms there than here in the US.
A growing number of seniors are retiring to Central American countries where their retirement dollars go much farther than they do here in the US. The current exchange rate in Costa Rica is $1US equals 492.89 Colon.
Other Americans are getting fed up with the overall condition of our country and the direction that Obama and his fellow Democrats are taking us. In the second quarter of 2013, the number of Americans renouncing the US citizenship and turning in their passports increased six fold over the same quarter in 2012. Last year, 189 people left the US behind them. In the same period this year, a record 1,131 people said goodbye to America.
In 2008, a total of 235 Americans gave up their citizenship and left the country. After 4 years of Obama’s tyrannical rule, there have been 1,810 people leave in just the first half of this year.
The government claims that many of the people giving it up for another country are doing so to escape US taxes. Of all of the countries that belong to the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development, the US is the only one that taxes citizens no matter where they reside, even in other countries. An estimated six million Americans are living in other countries and are facing tougher asset disclosure rules under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FACTA).
In April, the Swiss government stated: “The United States wishes to ensure that all income earned worldwide by U.S. taxpayers on accounts held abroad can be taxed by the United States.”
Matthew Ledvina, a US tax attorney working for AG Anaford in Zurich, explained what he is seeing: “With the looming deadline for Fatca, more and more U.S. citizens are becoming aware that they have U.S. tax reporting obligations. Once aware, they decide to renounce their U.S. citizenship.”
Whether escaping taxes, trying to make retirement dollars go father or seeking to get away from the socialistic and tyrannical rule of Obama and his fellow Democrats, record numbers of Americans are giving up their country and seeking life elsewhere. To be honest, I can’t say that I blame them.
