Recently, while watching television, I was noticing how commercial after commercial was so explicitly sexually charged.  It’s hard to believe how even products for intimacy and otherwise are exposed before people of all ages. This is something that I would have never conceived growing up that I would see in such a public way which would make me feel embarrassed in front of my daughters.  A few days later I went to our local shopping mall and also noticed how many of the window displays were so sexually charged as well.  Just walking through the mall I noticed how so many of the women, young and old, were dressed so provocatively revealing so much skin. It seems like presenting products in an erotic or sensual manner sells.  I reflected on how out of control and in-your-face sex is everywhere in our culture.

The subject of sexuality is all around us encouraging and awakening folks of all ages to their sexual appetites.  Commercials and match-making websites, even so-called “Christian match-making” websites, abound on how to assist you in picking a partner and engaging in relationships that will offer you the romance and emotions your heart craves to feel loved and accepted.  These are not only limited to the opposite sex anymore but now include same-sex appeals, commercials and innuendos are there.  What can be said about most movies where sex must be present to encourage viewing?  They sell the idea that it’s perfectly “acceptable” to end up in bed even on a first date?  Casual sex is presented like it’s expected as the most natural course of events without any kind of commitment or responsibility.

These enticements do not present the risks of what out-of-wedlock sex does to a relationship, not to mention unwanted pregnancies or sexually transmitted diseases.  All of this makes it confusing for people to interpret their sexual urges.  It certainly trumps up their hopes for committed relationships and intact families.  We live in a society that sensualizes sex and encourages experimentation with it before a solid foundation exists in a relationship or even before a person is mature and has found his or her own identity.

Studies and institutions have been established to research the science of human sexual behavior and its consequences only to superficially reveal that sexual problems can be prevented with condoms, contraceptives or the morning-after pill or if all of the above fails there is always a “choice” to murder your baby through a “legal” process called abortion.

Modern neuroscience research has uncovered startling new information about how sex affects the brain and how, the effect of sex on our brains, can have all sorts of consequences, including some that they are still working on.  Further studies have been performed byThe Medical Institute for Sexual Health founded 16 years ago by Dr. Joe McIlhaney, Jr. in Austin, Texas. Dr. McIlhaney and his coauthor Freda McKissic Bush, M.D. have now revealed a tremendous risk of the consequences of sex that cannot be prevented with any product out in the commercial market.  They have published their findings in a book titled Hooked: new science of how casual sex is affecting our children.  It is reported that there are 10 million porn websites on the Internet and the biggest consumers are males from ages 12-17. The above authors affirm “sex can literally change a person’s brain, influencing the thought process and affecting future decisions. “ [1]

I will be sharing more aspects of their findings with you in future articles because pure unadulterated science will always corroborate and confirm that the Creator is always right.  Sound scientific evidence increases the fighting chance to change culture. We greatly appreciate the work and arduous research no doubt these findings have entailed.

In our society, sex addicts of all types are now described or excused as being ill, or victims of the same treatment.  Their sick behavior is dealt with no more than brief jail time and a “slap on the wrist”.  The gravest consequence is that they now have to register as sex offenders for the rest of their life or until they reoffend and get thrown back in jail for another short period but they have now ruined more lives in their path. The laws for sexual perverts and their crimes are so lax that, unbeknownst to you, your neighborhood could already be filled with them.

Do you think God already knew about these devastating consequences when He established the guidelines for sex in His Word?

Consider the following Scriptures:

“…The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.”  “ Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.” I Corinthians 6:13,18.

“But sexual immorality and all impurity or covetousness must not even be named among you… “ Ephesians 5:3.

For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality;  I Thessalonians 4:3.

God always means what He says and says what He means.  By what authority have humans taken it upon themselves to “improve” on God’s design to the point of erasing the strict guidelines? The horrific consequences of sinfulness have put us and future generations at great risk.  When sex is experienced in unhealthy and ungodly ways, it will damage vital aspects of who we are as human beings.

However, we can change culture.  We must teach and exemplify that when sex is experienced God’s way it adds great value and satisfaction to life.

Be encouraged, with God and people who are willing to work with His statutes and principles, all things can change and all things are possible. Teaching and practicing God’s ways is the solution.  Parents must be most diligent in teaching their children what God has to say in all areas of life.
