Since I was a young girl, I have heard a mantra that the world is becoming more and more overpopulated, and that everyone should not plan on having a large family. We have been told to use contraceptives to avoid getting pregnant because the planet cannot withstand a growth in population. Then to top it off, in 1973, abortion was legalized in America and since then to now 62.1 million unborn children have been murdered in the mother’s womb. A mother’s womb is supposed to be the safest place for a baby; however, it has become the most dangerous place of execution for millions of them.
The overpopulation lie is used by those who want to control us and our culture and they have drilled it into the minds of the past generations since the 1950s and 1960s.
In 1960, the pill was approved for contraceptive use. By 1962 it was an instant hit. It is reported that after two years, 1.2 million Americans women were on the pill; after three years, the number almost doubled, to 2.3 million.
Did God not get the memo? He told the human race since the very beginning to “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it” (Genesis 1:28). God doesn’t make mistakes! Studies show that we have got it wrong in avoiding having children and the global impact is already being felt around the world in many countries.
A study published in The Lancet reports of global trends in fertility rates and offers a clear prediction of what lies ahead if the birth rate does not increase in many countries. The study found that almost every country could face a dangerous decline in populations. By 2100, some nations, like Spain and Japan, could see their populations fall by 50%. That is huge! Populations usually don’t make it back from that point of no return.
Studies by the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics showed that in 1950, there was an average of 4.7 children in their lifetimes. That number drastically changed by 2017, the number dropped to 2.4. Studies predict that number will continue to decline, probably falling to below 1.7 by 2100. At this rate, the global population is estimated to climax at 9.7 billion around 2064, before falling down to 8.8 billion by the end of the century. What will the world look like as the population gets older? Who will be there to take care of them? How will that effect the economy of the world when not enough younger people are there to replace the workforce that is going out of commission?
All these dire symptoms tell us to stop paying attention to the advocates of decreasing the population. Rather, let’s pay attention and believe God in his instructions for right living and the perpetuation of the human race.
Most of all, let’s fight strongly against abortion in all the nations of the world who have massacred 1.58 billion pre-born babies since 1980. We should not be weary of overpopulation of the world, rather we should be strongly concerned of the decline in population that will annihilate us from the planet.
We are not overpopulated just unevenly distributed. The overcrowded mega cities are not only suffocating but completely unhealthy to the survival of the human race.
In America, we should begin to reverse the message and encourage and incentivize married couples to increase their family size. Christians and churches should highly encourage parishioners to adopt unwanted children and give them a good, loving and godly home. We are the ones commissioned to care for the widows and orphans and so fulfill the will of God when it comes to loving our neighbor as we love ourselves.
There is so much more that I could point out on this subject, but I think you get the picture that declining the birth rate is the wrong thing to do. Let’s believe God rather than fearmongering humans.
