The Tongue-Twisting GOP

Ramon Arias| July 27, 2015

When asked if homosexuals are born that way, it seems as though the GOP Presidential candidates are afraid to give a straight answer, don’t know the answer, are uncomfortable with the question, are securing votes or simply playing the guessing game of catch me if you can.

I have listened to three Republican presidential candidates: Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum, and Scott Walker stumble all over themselves in an effort to give an answer that reminds me of the tongue twisters that we are familiar with:

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
Where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked?

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
He would chuck, he would, as much as he could, and chuck as much wood
As a woodchuck would if a woodchuck could chuck wood

Betty Botter bought some butter
But she said the butter’s bitter
If I put it in my batter, it will make my batter bitter
But a bit of better butter will make my batter better
So ‘twas better Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter

Tongue twisters can improve one’s pronunciation and are used by many individuals in different fields, including politicians that want to speak with clarity. The three running presidential candidates aforementioned basically are concluding with the same answer: “I do not know if homosexuals are born that way.”

For decades, I have made it clear that I’m not a homophobe but, as part of the human race, since my childhood I have been interested in human behavior and its historical outcome. When we analyze human actions with an open mind, critical thinking and willingness to understand the reason for all the different possibilities, we will find answers to the most complex behaviors. It is with that background in mind that you and I, and everyone else, should approach the scientific, sociological, economical and historical facts that reveal to us the conclusion, without a shadow of a doubt, whether human beings are born homosexuals or not. Without using the biblical view of life and the world as it relates to the homosexual lifestyle the facts previously mentioned are sufficient to debunk any hypothesis that attempt to justify the homosexual preferences.

Until 1974, the American Psychiatric Association considered homosexuality to be a mental illness.  Before that, in 1970 during the APA Convention in San Francisco, California, the homosexual activists stepped up their protests against this finding. Greatly encouraged by the sexual revolution of the 1960s, the homosexual community saw their opportunity early on in the 1970s to come out of the closet at that moment because they felt empowered politically and socially.

Under pressure in 1974, the APA board of trustees voted to remove homosexuality from the mental illness classification, but did not go as far as to say that it was normal sexual behavior.  It is a fact that the APA’s decision was not based upon scientific research.

I’m sure you have heard about the scientific frenzy to find the “homosexual” gene that would prove that people are born homosexuals. The human genome project couldn’t find such a gene after many years of research. You have probably also heard of the identical twin studies not having same sexual orientations. No reliable scientific method backs the claim that people are born homosexuals.

Medical studies and the outcome of the homosexual lifestyle can demonstrate that there are volumes of recorded health problems from same sex relationships, especially in the homosexual male population.  We must not be blinded and forgetful of the devastating problems that sexually transmitted diseases cause to humans. For many years, I was involved in following the AIDS pandemic by accepting to work first-hand with the problem and the solution. At the beginning, society became terrified and paranoid to discover this devastating disease, yet my biblical faith, conviction and compassion was stronger then the stigma of coming in contact with dying homosexuals. When the HIV-AIDS became evident in the homosexual community it then spread to the non-homosexual population, and now millions of people have died and continue to die through this contagion. The human suffering caused by sexually transmitted diseases is heart wrenching.  It is never easy to see that death does not respect any person regardless of the color of their skin, nationality, or whether they are rich or poor.

The world may be on a roll celebrating and promoting same-sex “marriage” and stupidly comparing it to an interracial marriage victory; the reality is that homosexuality is not the new black human right issue. There is also no denial that bigger social and cultural confrontations are only going to intensify. History tells us that we will pay dearly by thinking we can outsmart nature and “improve” on what thousands of years have told us to be true.

On the bright side, I can testify that for over forty years I have also witnessed how homosexuals, male or female, have recovered from such a detoured life style. This is an undeniable historical fact.

For those of us who have found that the moral law of God is absolute and above man’s law we know and accept what the Bible reveals, that it is God who sets the standard for living. We are created in God’s image. Christ came to redeem the human race and set us free from the chains of the slavery of sin.  This is the greatest news for all mankind.

Sin is an organized internal controlling force, it is worse than anything humans can ever confront. It not only affects lives here and now, but if not seriously dealt with, the damage is irreparable after the physical death.

The homosexual community and Christians should take notice of Paul’s letters and John’s writings almost two thousand years ago:

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery….

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:1, 16-25)

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

“Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness [greed], which is idolatry.” (Colossians 3:5)

“But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

There is no excuse for the Republican presidential candidates who profess to be of the Christian faith to be tongue-tied, or anyone for that matter. People need to do their well thought-out analysis related to the homosexual agenda. Let us keep in mind and not shrink from the truth that all issues are related to how we live here and now, and throughout eternity.
