Today, America celebrates a much-deserved holiday: Veteran’s Day! A day where all grateful citizens join in expressing our appreciation for all those who have served in our military branches. Those who have courageously fought on the battlefields when and where they have been commanded to do so. In gratitude of those who have served; we express our appreciation for your brave and willing service and say a big thank you! We truly hope that this day and every day you and your families experience our deepest gratitude for something that we could perhaps never repay all the sacrifice. Again, thank you!
Remembering this day, I can’t help but think about freedom and ask, “what is true freedom and are we living it here in America?” It is said that we fight to preserve our freedoms, and no doubt that is what happens in war. But I wonder if what is happening in America is true freedom. Is true freedom to be taken for granted and squandered in wrong living? To answer that question, I must think of how our Savior, Jesus Christ spoke about true freedom when he said, “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). And then in John 14:6 he says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
The Bible speaks of true freedom and is the only blueprint for the restoration of mankind; there is no other manual that can compare or even begin to compete with its wisdom and accuracy. In the pages of the Bible we gain understanding of what true liberty is all about and how to resolve all our problems. Therefore, those who dedicate their lives to spreading the knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus and his truth are the true freedom fighters in all the world.
The greater the understanding of the Bible, the more the true foundation in this nation called America will be understood. As hard as it may seem for some to accept, the Bible gives clear directions for the reasons for war. Wars are awful, and the devastation is clearly seen, including wars for independence, revolutions and counterrevolutions. The landscape of human history is filled with all kinds of wars, and they will continue due to the sinful nature of mankind. However, when men acquire the knowledge of the Lord, then wars will cease, and weapons will be transformed into tools of productivity. “He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4)
Next time you hear about or remember the price that was paid by courageous people in order to keep America free, make an honest assessment and question if what America is becoming is a free nation, from the Founding Father’s perspective, or is it some other perspective? Most importantly, ask if it is becoming more in tune with the biblical worldview of freedom.
If we are honest, we will say that America is becoming more like a police state than the guarantor of our freedoms under God. Once again, the nation is crying out for her redemption. The good news is that because our freedoms are shrinking, people are beginning to understand that we must take back the nation under the direction of God’s ethics. The price we pay will be well worth it.
The sooner we know the truth of God, the freer we will be. Let’s join the ranks of the real freedom fighters to set people free with God’s truth in the entire world.
Ronald Reagan said, “…freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction.” Let’s not be the generation that lets true freedom die. Let us defend it under the banner of Christ—the true freedom Victor.
“How beautiful upon the mountainsare the feet of him who brings good news,
who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness,
who publishes salvation,
who says…, “Your God reigns.” (Isaiah 52:7)
