The Unnecessary Breakdown of America

It is common knowledge that a building is only as strong as its foundation. This is not rocket science. So by logic, if the foundation of this structure is compromised, it is only a matter of time the building will crumble and no amount of propping up will sustain it.

It is too late and too obvious to deny that America is crumbling due to the erosion of the solid foundation that she was founded on. I must say at this point its demise began when a document known as the Constitution of the United States supplanted the Word of God and has since been known as the “supreme law of the land.” Up to that point, for one hundred and fifty six years prior, the Bible guided the value system in this country. From the time the Pilgrims landed on these shores in 1620 up until 1776, God’s Word was the supreme law of the land because its values were implemented to guide the cultural climate of the early settlers and colonies. People who so choose can deny all they want that America was founded as a Christian nation, but true unrevised history will prove them wrong. However, America’s foundation has long been compromised, which is why we are seeing its demise. It does not give me great pleasure to say that because I love my country especially in its original design, which I have no doubt was from God.

On a larger scale, it is commonly known that the average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. With God’s knowledge, it doesn’t have to be that way because his principles are established and endure for all time. But when the sinfulness of mankind is allowed to take us in different directions, eventually destruction will be inevitable. Proverbs 14:12 says, ^“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”

In its origin, America was established as a colony for God, read the Mayflower Compact, which I consider America’s first Constitution. Sadly, and over many years, America was allowed to evolve into a common and dangerous democracy.

Something to consider is a quotation from Sir Alex Fraser Tytler (1742-1813), Scottish jurist and historian, professor of Universal History at Edinburgh University in the late 18th century, from his lecture collection of 1801, says the following:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury. From that time on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the results that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” 

I know what you may be thinking, a dictatorship? Not in America!

The forefathers knew the dangers of a democracy, which is why they founded the United States of America as a Republic, to follow the rule of law, not a DEMOCRACY. 

As mentioned, the average age of the world’s great civilizations has been 200 years and it is interesting to note that these nations have lived through the following sequence of events:

• From bondage to spiritual faith;     
• From spiritual faith to great courage;     
• From courage to liberty;     
• From liberty to abundance;    
• From abundance to selfishness;     
• From selfishness to complacency;    
• From complacency to apathy;     
• From apathy to dependency;    
• From dependency back again to bondage.

I believe the U.S. is now between the apathy and complacency phase of democracy, and  that  is because about 40 percent of the nation’s population has already reached the dependency phase.

History shows that nations richer and more powerful in their day than we, have been sabotaged, defeated, and enslaved. Some examples are Babylon, the richest and largest nation of its time collapsed by its lust for luxury and made it an easy target for the greed of others such as the Medes and Persians to overtake them, and enslave its people. Rome, was a great military power, but when the people wanted bread and circus more than hard work and love of country, Rome was divided and plundered by more fierce vandals.

Another example is the Incan Empire. If you have ever read anything about the Incan Empire, you may remember that, at one time, they were the richest people in the Americas, but were looted by merciless and better-armed invaders who destroyed their empire. You might say how can this happen?

In every case it was the self-indulgent weaknesses of the victim, which gave victory to the invaders. 

Undoubtedly these collapsed nations received warnings against overindulgence and weakness.  They knew that each citizen was responsible for his nation, and that responsibility cannot be transferred on to governing officials. But as is the case, the people grew arrogant and said, ‘It can’t happen here.’  But it did!

Where is America headed?

I have good news for America!  It does not have to be remembered as a failed nation if it turns back to the foundation and godly values that gave it its greatness. There is still hope, and God is not done with America unless America is done with God.

The demise of America is unnecessary if it turns back to God.
