True Social Justice Does Not Produce Misery

September 27, 2015

Note: The following editorial was written back in October 2012. However, the topic is just as relevant today as it was back then. There is a real need to understand what true social justice looks like and what believers all across the world are called to be and do. It is important that we look at history to see which ideologies promote the well being of people and which cause misery and destruction.

I know you are familiar with the chant phrase “social justice,” we hear it over and over from so many people in all walks of life. Those who make the most noise about it are the ones who are in the social spotlight and I must add that they have the least interest in the practicality of what they preach about social justice; they will never be as charitable to be in line with what they preach. Their wealth is too important to them; it is what defines them. I must also admit with great sadness that most of Christianity is infected with the bug of “social justice”.

How are we to understand what most people “know” or think they know about social justice? Every time you hear the term “social justice” you must understand it is the idea of creating economic justice better known as redistribution of wealth. Those who preach the concept believe once it is achieved it will be for the common good. Except there is a problem, wealth is created by individuals who work very hard, others risk their money in investments, they are the creators of jobs and goods, inventors and innovators. The takers don’t stop to think that the hard working people and achievers are the ones who are expected to give up their money and liberty without opposing those who demand that society obey a bureaucratic centralized system which dictates from the top down. In other words, those who sweat to create income must give to those who do not work and expect others to take care of them. This was Karl Marx’s vision of economics and his idea of a perfect paradise for society.  Marx continues to influence from the grave, through liberals, progressives, socialists or communists. Does it matter that Marx’s economic worldview has never worked and has brought so much misery and death? Obviously not, if it did there would be fewer advocates for such a failed evil economic worldview.

More alarming are the many Christian organizations that support Karl Marx’s brand of social justice. The Marxists successfully penetrated most of Christianity by claiming that Jesus was a communist or socialist. They strongly emphasize Jesus’ command to help those who are less fortunate, but that is a partial truth. Nowhere in the four Gospels will you find that Jesus expected those who are better off to lose everything they have in the process of helping others, especially when those “others” can take care of themselves if they had a mind to. What Jesus emphasizes is that we are to be compassionate and get involved with our financial giving according to our abilities, which is totally opposite of what social justice teaches and imposes. Beware of all those who use the Word of God to accomplish their evil ways. Do not believe that social justice, as preached by the Communists and their devotees, is at the very heart of the Gospel.

Did Jesus teach us to love our neighbor as we love ourselves? Yes he did! Let us take a quick glance at his statement when the religious leaders constantly wanted to test him and his commitment to strictly follow God’s moral law:

“And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 22:35–40).

Notice, it is impossible to love our fellow men and ourselves if we do not first love God with all our heart, soul and mind. We cannot overlook this very important fact. We are not called to love God with blind faith, superstition, without reason or intellect; the opposite is true; only if we simultaneously unite our heart, soul and mind and we determine to learn who God is do we arrive at God’s good pleasure. When His character, vision and purpose for our lives and salvation in this world and in the world to come are in view do we begin to see clearly. This is why Jesus clearly stated which one was the greatest commandment in God’s moral law and added the second in relation to a responsibility with our neighbors as well as with our individuality. When Jesus said that on those two commandments depended all the law and the prophets that was not to say he was introducing new Commandments. What Jesus did was to quote from what God had already revealed in Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18–19. Jesus emphasizes in the same manner “On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” God’s moral law never changes, most likely you have heard that it does, Beware of such false teaching, here is why: Jesus said, “whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 12:7).

Jesus also made it clear God’s moral law is not to be abolished: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:17–20).

Man’s attempt to implement social justice without the moral law of God which gives the only sure foundation, they will continue to be the social engineers for destruction and misery. Twisted minds can never produce the right social order, it is impossible since it is man-made not God ordained.

When individuals love God with all their emotional and intellectual inner being they have no need for men or government to dictate to them to do good to their neighbors because it is in their understanding of what God requires of them: “He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8).

Are you familiar with the story of the Good Samaritan? You should be, you can find it in Luke 10:25–37. In that passage, Jesus is making it very clear what justice, love and kindness does in the individual who loves God not in religious terms but in God’s ethical terms. People can be very religious and not practice God’s kind of justice toward others, much less be generous with their finances to meet the needs of others and be socially proactive. On the other hand, those who promote their brand of social justice are always generous with someone else’s hard earned money; that is not social justice it is robbery and promotes jealousy, hatred, and all kinds of evil in the hearts, emotions and minds of people. It is a formula for ongoing misery and total destruction almost like no other human factor.

The Communists that promote their brand of equal justice will never tell you the true intentions of their appetite for seizing power for total control of society. They will use any means, especially the wealth of others in order to achieve their goals and vision for the world.

People of God, may I warn you that the hour is very late and we have a very small window of opportunity to turn the nation back to God’s principles. We must pray and act upon our prayers and faith before God and man to be instruments to bring about God’s social justice that never produces misery. It is our choice, let us be wise and choose to faithfully represent God’s interests of righteousness here on earth.
