It is unquestionable that people determine the direction of the nation. In 1787 the sole responsibility for the future of the country was placed on the decisions of the citizenry. The Preamble of the Constitution states:
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Generation after generation, “We the People” elect into office, by majority vote, those whom they want as “Public Servants”. Read every word of the Preamble of the Constitution carefully and then ask the question: Who got us into this mess?
After serving nine terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, James Garfield became the 20th president of the United States. On July 2, 1881, he was shot and died from infection and internal bleeding on September 19, 1881. In his centennial address to Congress in 1876, he gave a prophetic warning to the nation:
Now, more than ever before, the people are responsible for the character of their Congress. If that body be ignorant, reckless, and corrupt, it is because the people tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption. If it be intelligent, brave, and pure, it is because the people demand these high qualities to represent them in the national legislature…If the next centennial does not find us a great nation…it will be because those who represent the enterprise, the culture, and the morality of the nation do not aid in controlling the political forces.
Only 89 years after the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America, Garfield spoke to the conscience of the nation acknowledging that the only ones responsible for the character of the elected officials are the people who tolerate ignorance, recklessness, and corruption, which is a recipe for national destruction. We are still battling this in the 21st century—140 years later.
Founding Father, Patrick Henry (1736-1799), is recognized as one of the most important Patriot leaders of the American Revolution. He said the following concerning the future of America:
The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government — lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.
Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom. No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue; and by a frequent recurrence to fundamental principles.
Securing the blessings of liberty can only be achieved by those who are not ignorant of the past, who understand the present and are willing to do what the times demand from good citizens to turn the nation around. It has been done in the past and can be done again; future generations will know if we did our part to secure their liberty or not.
Within the citizenry, there is a vast majority that should have no problem understanding what Henry said, “It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains.” It is impossible to have liberty and freedom without the Revealed Truth of God found in the Scriptures as a foundation.
Over 3,000 years ago, God’s people received the Laws to be implemented as the standards for living. These laws were not the outcome of men coming together to figure out how best to govern themselves and their social institutions for total success; these were laws given by God.
God’s people could turn this nation around so fast that it would astound the world. How is that possible? By accepting three words: If My People.
The requirements are not hard to follow and 2 Chronicles 7:14 gives the formula:
If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Commit yourself to study this passage from Scripture in depth; once you understand the full meaning, act upon it and communicate with as many believers as you can, and use all the resources available to you. We do not have any other alternative if we want to stop the evil that is overpowering our country.
As good citizens from “We The People and If My People” unite, only great things can happen and in the process the blessings of liberty will be secured, not just for us but also for future generations.
