A Call to Prayer for Our President

Nena Arias | June 3, 2019

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving be made for all people-for kings and all those in authority so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.
1 Timothy 2:1-2

The peace of a nation is more than essential, it is needed by all: “that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness” (v. 2).

We are instructed in the Scriptures to pray for all those in Authority, but how do we do that, exactly? To the human understanding prayer is an illogical phenomenon. How can we be pronouncing words here on earth and they are heard in heaven by God? It boggles the mind, but it is a reality that through prayers of faith we can ask God’s Divine intervention on many things and he intervenes.

In our times, we have never seen an acting president in this country so attacked and maligned like President Trump. A call to prayer for our president has been issued by Franklin Graham, the son of the late Billy Graham and it is befitting that we do so. Hundreds of spiritual leaders and thousands have joined in this and you can too.

Franklin designated June 2, 2019 for this call, but every day is appropriate to pray for those in authority. There are many who still do not accept that God put Trump in office for this time and they are fighting with all they can to bring him down. President Trump needs God’s protection and we must support him in prayer. No ruler can do a good job without God overseeing every decision. Honest and God-fearing rulers will acknowledge they are not enough and cannot do it alone, so they are forced to turn to God and so must we.

Depending on God’s strength is the wisest thing anyone can do, and we must acknowledge this for ourselves and our president. Real individuals learn to recognize that in spite of their best efforts they don’t have what it takes. We must stand in the gap with our president and ask God to intervene on his behalf against all the hatred and vitriol that is hurled at him daily.

Let us pray for President Trump’s protection and that God will grant him wisdom, knowledge and understanding to make wise decisions. Also, that he himself will acknowledge his need for God on a daily basis. Let us pray that he will have respect for God’s principles of governance. That he will seek wise counsel from God-fearing individuals that will lead us all in the right direction.

We are admonished in God’s Word that we ought always to pray and not lose heart no matter what may come our way.

Thank you for joining with us daily in prayer for our president. And also pray for our leaders—our judges, police chiefs, educators, school board members, military officers, elected officials, and others who serve our country in leadership. By doing this, you are standing in the gap, intervening between God and those in authority.
