Are You a Warrior or a Victim?

“In all these things we are more than conquerors
through him who loved us.”
(Romans 8:37)

Real challenges in life come to all of us daily. We are having to make choices that will either build us up or tear us down. We either grow and mature or cower in fear. Going with the flow like all others without really understanding what life is truly all about is a very dangerous path to be on and will ultimately lead us to destruction. We either become warriors or victims. Either fight or lay down and be trampled. That is the choice we face. Our choices determine who we are and who we will become. This is the challenge that Joshua of the Bible put before the nation of Israel when said to them, “choose you this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:14-15).

In this world, reality is that we all have an invisible enemy who seeks to destroy us in any way that he can. He will stop at nothing. He will even use the people and things that are most precious to us to accomplish his goal. This enemy has no degree of mercy and will even wait until the most opportune time to move in. Many times, his process takes a long time, but you can rest assured he is always on the prowl and will even move in ever so slowly to avoid being detected and is relentless. I am talking about none other than the enemy that declared war on God and all of his creation which includes us if we have declared ourselves to be on God’s side. He is Satan and his realm of darkness. He is so subtle he has even convinced many people that he is a myth, so they won’t even look for him to be behind all the adversity he hurls at us and how he preys on our weaknesses. Romans 8:36 says, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”

But the other side of the coin is that God is more powerful, wise and he never sleeps or slumbers and is always looking out for us and makes all provision in what he promises, “In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us” (Romans 8:37). This means that when Jesus defeated Satan he also shares that victory with all of us his real children. All humans are created by God, but only those who are walking in obedience to his will are his true children. Notice I didn’t say those who say they are Christians but those who live in obedience to the Lord are the true children of God.

We will only obtain total victory if we abide by the knowledge of God.

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you.”
(Hosea 4:6)
