“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat,
for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
(Genesis 2:17)
A big deal is being made of human made toxic pollution, and rightfully so. We should accept our responsibility in containing it and in taking good care of this planet—our earthly home.
But why is it that when pollution is mentioned we only think of the physical pollution and not the pollution (sin) of the minds and spirits of the human race, which is much more important—yet spiritual and moral sin is becoming more acceptable without any significant push back and it is polluting every sphere of our vital existence?
The impact of the pollution I am talking about is SIN. Why are people more readily accepting of sinful concepts and actions than accepting the prevention of that inner pollution that is felt instantly.
God told Adam and Eve, “but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” (Genesis 2:17)
Some may say, they didn’t die when they disobeyed and ate of the forbidden fruit. Wrong! Their decay began immediately. Their comfortable and happy interaction with God was interrupted immediately because they experienced fear of him and wanted to hide from him. Morally they experienced immediate shame of their nakedness. The guilt of their disobedience was felt immediately; something they had never experienced before. Even though their physical death manifested until much later, yet you can rest assured that the decay and wearing down of their physical bodies began that very day also.
Physical pollution can be seen in the landscape, in dangerous soils, oceans, lakes, rivers, dead plants and animals, and humans also suffer the consequences. There are facts demonstrating how bad pollution is for every living thing on planet Earth.
The deadly pollution of the soul is something too many people are agreeable to live by. This toxic pollutant is one that most people disregard easily and brush off in spite of what the historical facts reveal about its destructive force. What is this super destructive pollutant? It is sin in all of its manifestations!
We have abandoned the truths of God that we have known to be true for millennia and have traded them for the lies of men and we are giving our sinful appetites free reign. Isaiah warns us of this, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20)
America is contaminated by unchallenged lies that have been allowed to go on in hopes that someday things will straighten themselves out. Perhaps the next generation will be wiser and braver to make things right. In the meantime, here we are.
Here in America past generations fought against lies because it made the difference for right living. Our present generation has been burdened by lies from what we can see, it would seem that people want to be lied to without thinking of the moral and immoral consequences.
Individuals, as well as nations, who embrace lies as a lifestyle and see no apparent consequences for their lives don’t realize they have succumbed to the lying spirit. They even rejoice and worship those who lie the most, however, history teaches us that no nation will ever escape the consequences of the toxic pollution of lies and falsehoods.
Jesus told self-righteous Israel that they had embraced the source of lies when they rejected the truth, “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).
In a letter to James Smith, 1822 Jefferson told him, “Man, once surrendering his reason, has no remaining guard against absurdities the most monstrous, and like a ship without rudder, is the sport of every wind. With such persons, gullibility, which they call faith, takes the helm from the hand of reason and the mind becomes a wreck.”
Dear friends, in our generation, we have no excuse to believe lies because we have all truth at our disposal in God’s Word—the Bible.
Gullibility and rejecting God’s truth has destroyed lives and nations because people’s minds are seared with lies.
Only God’s truth will liberate us from this present pollution of lies. We must be willing to stand for revealed truth knowing it is our only way out, especially to rebuild the cultural foundations. If we do this, future generations will be grateful; if we don’t, they will curse us.
Let’s choose wisely and live.
