The New York Post’s front page of June 25 describes the ripple effect of Britain’s decision to leave the EU: “Around the world; voices cry out: POWER TO THE PEOPLE.”
Only fools would not admit how bad things are in the world with a tendency to get even worse. Says who? The undisputable truth of history, that’s who. The “experts” are telling us that the “main” reason the Brits voted to leave the EU was the issue of immigration; they could not be more wrong. The truth is, England was paying too much to be part of the EU with no return benefits. Also, they had lost their national sovereignty to all of the decisions made by the elite, which control the EU from the de-facto capital based in Brussels, Belgium.
Those who think England will sink financially must check how well Switzerland is doing as one of the ten wealthiest nations in the world without being part of the EU. When we learn about the reasons for their refusal to associate with the EU it makes perfect sense. The Swiss don’t take their independence lightly and are not willing to lose their identity in the cesspool of multiculturalism, even though they came close in reconsidering joining, but finally said never mind, and pulled away. Alliances with other nations involve accepting to be regulated by the whims of unelected officials and their political views that expect them to be endorsed and obeyed. The economic outcome is whatever the elite dictate, and they must be an active part of militarism, something foreign to the Swiss. So, guess what? Switzerland has not engaged in warfare since 1815, which is certainly something to think about. How much influence did John Calvin (10 July 1509 – 27 May 1564), the Protestant Reformer, have in their worldview? This analysis will require a more in-depth look. I strongly encourage you to start your in-depth research immediately.
The Brits that voted to leave the EU, even before the election, were saying that June 23rd would be their Day of Independence. How many nations do you know have gained their independence since the thirteen American colonies declared theirs in 1776, or, how many understand the real meaning of independence? If they don’t clearly understand the meaning, are they independent? At the moment of this writing, more than a million Brits have signed a petition demanding a second referendum. They want to continue to cling to the utopian vision of United European nations with different cultures, languages, the growth of multiculturalism and worldviews. It has never worked in history, but some still think that is where their identity and future lie.
The United States began as an experiment of self-government never before done in the history of the world. Thomas Jefferson understood the importance of commerce when he stated, “Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto.” Jefferson to T. Lomax, 1799.
Jefferson was not promoting isolationism for the new nation; his idea was very clear to not have political, military or foreign involvement with other nations, but only commerce. America was born as a different historical nation with values obtained by the biblical foundation brought by the forefathers in 1620. The principles of other countries in Jefferson’s time were opposite to those of The United States in declaring their liberty. In 1799, Jefferson wrote a letter to Elbridge Gerry with the French Revolution (1789-1799) in mind and the never ending wars in Europe, which is far different than the colonies that didn’t want to overthrow England’s monarchy, yet they conquered the empire, he stated:
“I am for free commerce with all nations, political connection with none, and little or no diplomatic establishment. And I am not for linking ourselves by new treaties with the quarrels of Europe, entering that field of slaughter to preserve their balance, or joining in the confederacy of Kings to war against the principles of liberty.”1
While in England, Obama told the British not to leave the EU; Hillary repeated the same admonition. With his understanding of how the establishment elites have damaged the nations, Trump said he was in favor of the British leaving the EU. I doubt that any of them have studied the writings of Jefferson and how extensively he wrote about the importance of self-government and not meddling in the political affairs of European nations, and other nations for that matter, but only to do commerce with all nations and to be sure to preserve liberty.
The enemy of liberty is libertinism. Historically, libertinism is embraced under the guise of “liberty” when people don’t want to be restrained in expressing their brand of morality and behavior. In reality, what they promote is a deadly poison for all nations; they may not immediately feel the effects of the venom but gradually it begins to deteriorate the life of a nation and then accelerates until the death of even a great nation sets in. The liberal or progressive intellectuals, branded as social experts of how people should live, in reality, are far from understanding the true source of liberty and unknowingly promote personal and collective destruction through libertinism.
The following are some synonyms of libertinism from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, which no sane person or society should overlook:
Corruptness, debasement, debauchery, decadence, degeneracy, degradation, demoralization, depravity, libertinage, corruption, perversion, pervertedness. Related words: evil, immorality, sinfulness, villainy, wickedness, filth, gangrene, and rot.
Antonyms: morality, virtue.
Near Antonyms: goodness, righteousness.
England will do well not to jump for joy in their hard fought victory to leave the EU because they are divided as a nation and the struggles to rebuild will be very challenging, even though it is achievable. They must know of the hate that their decision has generated towards them by the moguls who will find ways to punish them for abandoning their masters. If the English people want to secure their future and remain strong in the coming fight, they must also include in their reconstruction a plan to incorporate the rich lessons that the Reformation of the 16th century and the Puritans produced from the 1530s by adhering to the absolutes of the Bible in their daily lives. Also, the Brits must never forget their history of social decline for rejecting the liberty under the God of the Bible. Will they be willing to remember the power of prayer, which they engaged in during World War II and the London bombardments by the Germans and how God answered their national prayers? Or, will they continue on their road to libertinism?
Biblical liberty will always be at war with libertinism and libertinism will always lose against the God-given rights of liberty. There is a way paved to arrive at liberty and freedom with God-given power to control corrupt desires. God has not changed His requirements for healthy living if individuals and nations wish to attain true liberty; they must learn the biblical rules that guarantee the much-coveted liberty, which produces peace, stability and progress:
“They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.” (2 Peter 2:19, ESV)
“But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing…. So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty.” (James 1:25; 2:12, ESV)
“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” (1 Peter 2:16, ESV)
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17, ESV)
“and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free…. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:32, 38, ESV)
Even though we are the Unites States of America, for decades, the same battle between liberty vs. libertinism has been fought from border to border and from coast to coast. Britain finally broke away from the yoke of the EU; other European nations want to do the same now that they know it can be done. However, the enemies of freedom who think they control the nations will not quietly go away. Christian America, and every lover of freedom, must know what is coming down the pike from now until the November presidential election.
