What Type of Country Do You Want?

Nations and their government are what people have allowed to develop over time. For a long time, the United States of America has been held up as a model nation to follow due to the degree of freedom it afforded its people. But what most people don’t take into consideration is all the blood, sweat, tears, sacrifice and loss of life that it has cost. True freedom is never free. Beginning from that small band of Pilgrims that ventured on that treacherous voyage across the Atlantic in 1620 to arrive at these shores in search of freedom to serve the biblical God whom they worshipped, this country has known a lot of selfless sacrifice. The Pilgrims, those that followed, and many faithful and loyal patriots continued to pay a very high price and dedication to see this nation come to fruition and to ensure that they could pass on this heritage to future generations.

It takes very definite action and form of living to create and sustain a nation like the United States, but it must be done in the right spirit for God to support such an effort because ultimately it is God who determines the creation of a nation. Daniel 2:21 says, “He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings.”

The spirit behind the creation of the United States is clearly stated in its Declaration of Independence, which I want to emphasize at this point by quoting this portion below:

U.S. Declaration of Independence

“When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security…”   

I hope that as you read the above portion of this all-important document you perceived the spirit in which it was written and how they proceeded with decency, respect but firmness to shake off the oppressive government they were under up to that point. A very bloody war and much loss of life had occurred to declare themselves free. We know that this form of government since then placed a very serious commission to the citizenry to fight, preserve and defend this new nation by fulfilling their civic duty for God and country. Which is why its present-day condition is so tragic because we are too quickly losing the foundation this country was built upon. We are on a fast track toward socialism/communism. An oppressive ideology that creates a totalitarian form of government which history shows has destroyed nations and countless millions of lives wherever it has been implemented. Socialism/communism at first sounds like a paradise here on earth which turns into a nightmare. Do we truly want that form of government for our nation?

We the people ultimately decide what type of country we want even if it takes time and much sacrifice.

If you live in a country where you have a voice in the type of government you will have, you are a blessed person. During an election year, we have the opportunity to advance our country to the type of country we want or to take it farther away from that goal.
