When you make a vow (oath) to God, do not delay in fulfilling it, because He takes no pleasure in fools. Fulfill your vow. (Ecclesiastes 5:4)God sees an oath as very binding to the degree of punishment if it is not fulfilled.
An oath is a solemn promise about your behavior or your actions. Most of the time, when you take an oath, the promise invokes a divine being. For example, you might swear to God that something is true or swear on the Bible that something is true. By this act you are saying that God can and will hold you accountable if you do not fulfill your obligation.
It should be of great concern to all of us that so many public servants are breaking the oath of office that is a requirement when they were installed in an official position they won in an election or accepted a government position, or are a witness in court; it makes you wonder, if the oath of office or telling the truth is obsolete. If so, how will we hold them or ourselves accountable when we make an oath? The aggressive attempt to remake America into a humanistic stronghold without God continues and there is no slowing down.
For example, it was reported on One America News Network, by video of such an omission that is beginning to make the rounds. Even the U.S. House of Representatives has begun leaving God out when swearing in witnesses. Just like that, with a brush stroke, so to speak, God is gone?
What about the founding of this nation and all the references to the God of the Bible in our history and founding documents like the Declaration of Independence? Would we the majority of Americans, who still believe in God and want our public servants and institution to be held accountable to him allow America to be reinvented by those who hate God? We are a country built on a core belief in God and biblical values. So, the Declaration of Independence is now under assault by these people. The phrase “One nation under God indivisible” in our pledge has also been made obsolete, by one political party that seeks to attack liberty and justice for all. By what authority are these self-appointed little “gods/monarchs” changing the identity of our republic? The values that have been part of our founding for almost 400 hundred years since the Pilgrims landed here from Europe, are now being changed by those who think they are no longer needed.
We must remind them that they took their oath of office invoking God and he will hold them accountable. God will not be mocked!
Can the government acknowledge the role of God in human affairs? The founders have always acknowledged God since the beginning—in the founding of the nation. So, the answer to that question is yes.
God is the only one with absolute truth and justice; if we cease to acknowledge him, where will we get our value system from? As our Creator, God has imbedded his values into us, and they are inalienable, that is the truth.
Oaths recognize that we are accountable to God who sees all and who will one day judge us all.
